What to Do:
Can your bodies make electricity? Both you and your partner grab each of the bars, and watch the needle. Current is flowing through your bodies—can you feel it? There are no batteries here, just you! Some people make a lot of electricity, some just a little bit. Which of you is making the most electricity? How can you tell? What happens if you switch sides? Does the needle move in a different direction?
What is Happening:
Chemical interactions between your palms and the different metals create a voltage, which makes a current flow. The metals are acting like the two poles of a battery, with your hands providing the connection. This really is a battery, and one in which you play an important role! The person who creates the greater amount of current will cause the needle to move to their side of the amp meter.
