What to Do: Notice the pattern on the disk in front of you. It is made up only of black and white. Now press the button on the front of the board. The disk will begin to rotate. As it picks up speed, watch the disk. You will begin to notice colors appearing. Are the colors really there?
What is Happening: When the disk spins, your eye sees alternating white and black at any point. When the disk spins fast enough, your eye can- not adjust to this changing pattern. The different color sensors in your eyes saturate at different points, and so you perceive bands of color. Why is one band a different color than the others?
